Robert McIntosh was born in 1838 in Canada, of Scottish parents. He went to Chicago, where he
became acquainted with J.V. Farwell who, when he undertook his Hahns Peak venture, In 1877, McIntosh became postmaster at Hahns Peak. He served a brief term as county judge and county commissioner but disliked political life. For a number of years he worked under lease the Poverty Bar placer mines at Hahns Peak. When the mines became exhausted he moved to Slater on the Snake River, where he established a store and for many years raised horses on a large scale. His nicknames included “Old Mac” and “The canny Scot of Snake River.” He was known to be a hospitable, kind man. |
