In 1904 Colt introduced the first Colt Officer's Model. The Officer's Model was Colt's premium revolver. The Officer's Model Target, third issue like this one was introduced in 1927 and made until 1949. Calibers were .22LR, .32 Colt, and .38 Special, with the .32 Colt only available pre-war.
In 1935 a heavy barrel, as shown on this example, was an option. A special feature as shown by the factory letter is this revolver was furnished with a 2.5 lb. trigger pull. Grips were checkered walnut with silver medallions as shown on this example. The serial number 643756 indicates it was mfg. in 1940, but the factory letter says it was shipped in 1939.
